Registration takes place over two days. The dates will be announced at the end of the previous year. Make sure you read all the communications from the school to you as it does contain important info. The school has been refining their administrative approach for years but in order to make sure that your child are registered successfully, there are a couple of things you should remember and guidelines you have to follow.
Anything you neglect to do will be the cause of much frustration and hours of standing in rows to try and fix the problems.
Don’t come late (after 8am) on the first day.
Remember we have more than 3000 students registering with the school and only 2000 places in the hostel.
1) Student Number
Know your child’s student number. You will need to use it everywhere to uniquely identify you child. Especially with payments. If you are a new parent it would be advisable to hand in the complete registration forms in December already. They will SMS you a Student Number as soon as they have processed your registration forms.
2) Make sure all monies are paid
To avoid disappointment make sure that all the necessary monies are paid well in advance.
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER UNTIL ALL OUTSTANDING MONIES HAVE BEEN PAID IN FULL.
Keep your original deposit slips with you. If you can, make copies of the original deposit slips (Present them with the originals) so that you can give them (the copies) to the people registering your child. It saves your time.
What must be paid?
- A Registration fee
- School Fee (for the Month of January)
- Hostel Fee (for the Month of January, if you want your child in the hostel)
- Outstanding monies from the previous year.
(e.g. Lost or damaged books)
The school don’t want any cash payments due to the high risk it presents to the employees and to the children. It is advisable though to have a small amount of cash with you for the unexpected. Remember if you pay too much you can always claim it back another day. Cheque’s are also an acceptable form of payment.
(Make sure that if you pay with cash or per cheque, that you keep your receipts and that the student number appears on the receipt. Check before you leave the window.)
3) Necessary Documentation.
Make sure you have all the necessary document (with the necessary supporting documentation) with you and that everything has been filled in properly and signed where it needs to be signed. Please make sure that you write neatly and legibly. If you arrive with incomplete documentation it can seriously delay you and even prevent you from succeeding in registering your child.
Please keep the originals of all the supporting document. Once again hand in certified
copies. If there are any queries you (your child) will be able to provide the information.
Yes you hand the information in but it takes time to search through 3000+ registration
documents. Any queries you have will be resolved quicker if you keep your originals.
4) Hostel
Please do not assume that because you have “booked a bed”, the school phone you, you have paid in full or because you are a returning student that you are guaranteed a place in the hostel.
You must physically be present on the first day (morning, also must sleep in the hostel) of registration. Having fully paid and registered at the school before you can begin registration with the hostel. You as parent can only leave your child once you know in which hostel they have allocated him/her and you have seen them accepted into the particular hostel.
As from 2012 all students who registers ( Registration from handed in and all monies
paid in full) before the 7th of January will be placed in a hostel and you the parent will be informed via SMS in which Hostel you child will be. It will still be prudent not to wait to
long before you occupy your place in the hostel.
5) Class Pass
At the window, where you register you child for the the school, they will give you a piece of paper a “class pass” which he/she needs to keep save. Furthermore they need to have it with them on the first day of school and a couple of days there after. The school will use these passes to make sure only the registered students are attending school. If they lose this “class pass” it becomes another grueling session to verify that they have indeed registered.
6) Attending School
In the days that follow registration, your child must be at school everyday in order to keep their place. A special register is kept to see who has physically
arrived for school. If they see that your child isn’t present he/she will lose their place and it will be given to another.
Who can come to register on the second day?
Only grade 12’s or if you are a returning day scholar who are in Gr. 10 – 11, you can come on the second day of registration.
